Why is PimEyes unavailable in Illinois?

Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) requires companies to get explicit written consent before collecting face biometrics from state residents, and to store that data with strict protections. PimEyes chose to geofence Illinois rather than comply. This means residents cannot use PimEyes at all. IntimaShield is BIPA-compliant and works nationwide, including Illinois.

Should I use PimEyes to find content before hiring IntimaShield?

You can, but you do not have to. IntimaShield accepts URL-based case intake directly — if you already know where the content is posted, no face search is needed. If you suspect content is out there but you do not have URLs, the free scan at intimashield.com handles URL discovery without requiring a face upload.

Does uploading my face to PimEyes create privacy risk?

Accepted Answer

PimEyes stores your uploaded face image as a search query. Their privacy policy covers what happens to it, and for some users that is an acceptable tradeoff. For NCII victims specifically, adding another company that has a copy of your face to the pile is something to weigh carefully.
