IntimaShield vs StopNCII: Which Removal Service Should You Use?
When intimate images are shared without consent, victims need fast, effective removal. Two major options exist: StopNCII.org, a free nonprofit tool, and IntimaShield, a professional removal service. Both serve different purposes, and understanding those differences is critical to choosing the right path.
What StopNCII Does
StopNCII (Stop Non-Consensual Intimate Images) is a project created by the UK Revenge Porn Helpline in partnership with Meta. It works by generating a digital fingerprint, called a hash, of your intimate images directly on your device. That hash is then shared with participating platforms, which use it to detect and block matching content before it gets posted or shared further.
The participating platforms currently include Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Threads), TikTok, Reddit, Bumble, and a handful of other major services. The process is free, anonymous, and your actual images never leave your device. Only the hash is uploaded.
This is a genuinely useful tool. For content that has been or might be shared on major social media platforms, StopNCII provides a proactive layer of defense at zero cost.
What StopNCII Cannot Do
StopNCII only works on platforms that have signed on as partners. The hash-based system requires each platform to voluntarily integrate the StopNCII database and actively scan uploads against it.
This means StopNCII does not cover offshore leak forums like SimpCity, LeakedBB, or AnonIB. It does not cover file hosting services like Mega, Gofile, or Anonfiles. It does not reach Telegram channels. It does not cover standalone tube sites or any website hosted outside the jurisdictions of its partners. It also cannot remove content that already exists on these platforms; it can only prevent future uploads of hashed content on participating services.
If your content is already circulating on offshore sites, forums, or file lockers, StopNCII cannot help you remove it.
What IntimaShield Does Differently
IntimaShield is a professional removal service built specifically for non-consensual intimate images. Rather than relying on voluntary platform partnerships, IntimaShield uses a three-level escalation system to force removal from any site, anywhere.
Level 1: Direct Platform Takedown. We file DMCA notices, NCII-specific reports, and platform abuse reports directly with the hosting site. This works for most mainstream platforms and many mid-tier sites.
Level 2: Hosting Provider Pressure. When a site ignores takedown requests, we escalate to their server hosting provider. Hosts like Cloudflare, OVH, and Hetzner have their own abuse policies. Getting a site's hosting threatened is often enough to force compliance.
Level 3: Payment Processor and De-Indexing. For the most resistant sites, we report to their payment processors (Visa, Mastercard, PayPal) and file search engine de-indexing requests with Google and Bing. Cutting off a site's revenue and search visibility hits where it hurts most.
IntimaShield also performs biometric scanning across the web to find content you may not even know exists, and handles full search engine de-indexing to ensure removed content stops appearing in search results.
When to Use StopNCII
StopNCII is the right choice as a free, immediate first step. If your primary concern is preventing future uploads to major social platforms, StopNCII is effective and costs nothing. It works especially well as a preemptive measure: if you are worried someone might share your images but they have not done so yet, hashing them through StopNCII puts a safety net in place on partnered platforms.
Use StopNCII when the content is on (or likely to appear on) Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, or Bumble.
When to Use IntimaShield
IntimaShield is the right choice when content is already live on offshore sites, forums, file lockers, or Telegram. It is also the right choice when StopNCII partner platforms have not removed content despite the hash being registered, when you need content removed from search engine results, or when you need a comprehensive scan to find all copies of your content across the web.
The 99 crisis service covers identification of all instances, three-level escalation takedown, and search engine de-indexing, typically completed within 48 to 72 hours.
Can You Use Both?
Yes, and we recommend it. The most effective strategy combines both tools:
- Use StopNCII first to hash your images and establish proactive blocking on all partner platforms. This is free and takes minutes.
- Use IntimaShield to handle everything StopNCII cannot reach: offshore sites, non-participating platforms, search engine results, and any content that slips through the hash-based system.
Together, you get the broadest possible coverage: hash-based prevention on major platforms and active, forced removal everywhere else.
No single tool solves every case. But using StopNCII and IntimaShield together gives victims the strongest possible response to non-consensual intimate image distribution.
